BliSON is short for Blindern Studenterhjem, Oslo, Norway. It is a map based on a real location conceived in 1917 by Alette Schreiner, a physician, as a "wholesome home for students". The first students moved in 8 years later. You can learn more about that here.
Blindern Studenterhjem was occupied by the Nazis during World War II. They marched in on the 11th of April 1940 to search the buildings, before the Gestapo moved in on the 29th with the infamous SS torturer Siegfried Fehmer—one of the most despised members of the German occupation forces in Norway.
When soldiers entered the dining hall, they had to salute Adolf Hitler's photo on the wall, which meant slamming their boots into the floor just inside the dining room door. You can see the wear on the floor to this day.
After the war, from the 25th of June 1945 to the 11th of January 1946, the Norwegian military used the hostel to welcome home Norwegian soldiers and officers who had been imprisoned by the Nazis.
Today it is a home for 250 students. It is run like a mixed gender boarding school, with 3 meals every day, internet and laundry included in the rent. It is an absolutely fantastic place to live while studying in Oslo.
